Warming the World, One Quilt at a Time!!

The Origin Story beginnings...

Back on May 21, 2009 ... Liberty Comfort Quilt donated 10 wheelchair quilts to participate in a missions trip to Peru held by Joni & Friends out of California.

These first quilts were some of the first designs to see how fast and easy they were assembled. The different variations I used helped me decide what works best moving forward.

Follow Your Dreams...

Beginning a new venture involves much risk, sometimes, more money than available, but most importantly, stirs excitement.

Around July 2006, I was at a crossroads in my life with my career and talents. After searching my heart, I was inspired to do something with wheelchairs. At the time, I wasn't in a wheelchair, and didn't understand what it had to do with me, but at this point in my life, it didn't matter. So, I began creating designs of colorful, lightweight quilts to give to those in wheelchairs, especially children!

Then nine to ten months later, I was diagnosed with an incurable disease, MS (Multiple Sclerosis). It all started to make sense to me, and as I was learning about my disease, I was building an outreach program with the quilts. When given an opportunity to do something for others with our talent, we need to pursue our dreams and let go.

For me, reaching out to those in need, mostly children between the ages of 8 to 19 years old, that have an illness and/or their mobility is limited and need to use a wheelchair .. this has been the direction of my goal. Creating a special quilt that will bring warmth and comfort to them is something that has become an inspiration to me on a daily basis.

By designing a specialized-sized quilt that is colorful and easy to handle makes them feel special and gives them comfort knowing that others do care about them and want to do something extraordinary for them.

My goal at Liberty Comfort Quilt Corporation is to create and design colorful quilts to give to those in need and/or may need to utilize the use of a wheelchair for mobility.

About the Artist & Designer

Facing a mountain may seem insurmountable to some, but with a change of approach or path, the mountain becomes an exciting challenge worthy of pursuit, step by step.

In the spring of 2007, I was diagnosed with the incurable illness, Multiple Sclerosis. I now faced a new “mountain” in my life. Due to this mountain I lost my job, my insurance, and my home. That’s when I decided to face my mountain with a new attitude. I am using the art of quilting to climb over it.

I have been an artist all my life. I’ve always enjoyed working in the fields of the visual arts; especially painting, calligraphy, and pattern design and growing into more of the fiber art world with quilting. After my diagnosis, I began working with friends dealing with illnesses similar to mine. I designed a specialized-sized quilt for those who have limited mobility, and may even need to use a wheelchair.

I came up with a unique design that is easy to cut, assemble, and complete in as little as a few hours. The size and weight of the quilt make it easy to use and carry. The feedback from the recipients of these quilts has been positive. A little boy who asked for a quilt with horses in the pattern said, “it’s nice and warm.” THAT's my goal!!

Since December 2008, I have sent these special quilts to friends in Wisconsin and across the United States, as well as to England and Australia. In July 2009, I sent quilts to a mission's program set for the country of Peru, South America, where they were distributed to those with illnesses or disease.

I’m climbing a new path up this mountain, and each step is bringing me new opportunities to fulfill my dream. This path I’m on is worth every step I take -- or stitch, in my case.
